How to Write Protagonists

1. Know Their Arc! Knowing your main character's arc involves knowing where your character is going, know their voice, their POV, their inner thoughts, their characteristics, everything!

2. Motive! Give your character goals and motives. Readers need to know why a character does certain things, so including long-term goals is important, but also sprinkle in motive and smaller goals throughout.

3. Thoughts/Inner Monologue! Give your readers insight to your character's thought process. Are they withholding information from other characters that only readers know about?

4. Flaws! What are your character's flaws? Give your side characters flaws, too! A flaw makes a character unique and gives them a trial. It can also contribute to their character arc. No, the antagonist is NOT supposed to have all the flaws. Everyone has a flaw, including the main character.

5. Throw Them Off! Throw off your character with some kind of belief they have and then turn their life upside down when you reveal that their belief is false.

Hope this is helpful to those writers who are struggling with your main character! 🤎
