How to Survive NaNoWriMo - Part 1

  1. Start by organizing your November calendar and scheduling the amount of words you might need to write per day.

  2. Prep and outline your story idea ahead of time. This means working on the plot, world-building, character profiles/characterization, understanding your genre, and identifying the voice for the story.

  3. Decide on how your story will open. Knowing your first line, your first paragraph, identifying your writing style, and character's voice will make your opening strong right out of the gate.

  4. Focus on writing, not editing. Focus on getting words down, not perfecting them. This can be difficult to do, especially if you have a tendency to edit as you go, but this will help you write as much as possible during NaNoWriMo.

  5. Create a plan for whenever you get stuck, how you will make up the words if you skip a day, and for how you will handle yourself when you get overwhelmed or discouraged with your story.

Hope this is helpful to any writers planning to join in on NaNoWriMo 2022! 🤎
